Ramadan The Month of Forgiveness and Repentance

Tired of carrying the burden of past sins? Wondering if you could just wipe it off and start fresh? Well, Ramadan is the reset button for you.

Ramadan is the month of forgiveness – a time when Allah opens the gates of mercy, forgives His servants, accepts their repentance, and frees countless souls from the blazing pits of hellfire. You not only get the chance to gain forgiveness in Ramadan, but it is also the perfect time to turn back to Allah with a clean heart.

Join us in this article as we discuss how Ramadan and forgiveness go hand in hand and how you can get your sins forgiven and ranks raised this year.

In the name of Allah we begin.

Why is Ramadan the Month of Forgiveness?

The Quran and Hadith teach us that Ramadan is the best time to seek Allah’s forgiveness because His mercy is at its peak. Here’s why Ramadan is the month of forgiveness:

  1. Paradise Opened, Hellfire Locked

Our beloved Prophet ﷺ  said:

Meaning: “When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained.” [Sahih-al-Bukari: 1899]

Paradise is a gesture of mercy and forgiveness. It’s doors are open and inviting you to enter. So, what are you waiting for? Ask Allah for forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance immediately.

  1. Redemption from Hellfire

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

Meaning: “Verily, Allah has people He redeems in every day and night of Ramadan.” [Musand Ahmad: 7450]

  1. Ramadan Expiates Sins

Allah’s Messenger ﷺ  said:

Meaning: “The five (daily) prayers and from one Friday prayer to the (next) Friday prayer, and from Ramadan to Ramadan are expiations for the (sins) committed in between (their intervals) provided one stays away from the major sins.” [Sahih Muslim: 233]

  1. Ramadan Fasting Ensures Forgiveness

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said:

Meaning: “Whoever observes fasts during the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards, then all his past sins will be forgiven.” [Sahih al-Bukhari 38]

  1. Ibadah on Lailatul Qadr Ensures Forgiveness

Rasulullah ﷺ said:

Meaning: “And whoever prays during the night of Qadr with faith and hoping for its reward will have all of his previous sins forgiven.” [Sahih-al-Bukhari: 2014]

  1. A Harsh Warning

The Prophet ﷺ said:

Meaning: “Verily, Jibril came to me and he said: Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and he is not forgiven, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amin. I said amin.” [Sahih Ibn Hibban: 907]

Will I be Forgiven This Ramadan?

Maybe you feel guilty and hesitant to repent, thinking your sins are too great to be forgiven. But don’t lose hope—Allah Himself reassures you in the Quran with these words:

Meaning: “O servants of Mine who have acted recklessly against their own selves, do not despair of Allah’s mercy. Surely, Allah will forgive all sins. Surely, He is the One who is the Most-Forgiving, the Very-Merciful.” [Surah Az Zumar, 39 : 53]

Allah is the only One who accepts repentance and forgives sins. He says:

Meaning: “(He is) the One who forgives sins and accepts repentance, the One who is severe in punishment, the One who is the source of all power. There is no god but He. To Him is the ultimate return (of all). [Surah Al Ghafir, 40 : 3]

Allah also says:

Meaning: “And who is there to forgive sins except Allah?” [Surah Ale Imran, 3 : 135]

So, don’t hesitate and repent to Allah this Ramadan. This is your best chance to have your sins forgiven. It would be a shame and a matter of regret to miss out this opportunity.
